Hi. I'm Stuart Conley. I'm the chief investment officer of Hyperion Wealth Management. I've been an investment advisor since 1996.
You've probably heard people say that investing is like a journey. What that means to me and the way we apply that here at Hyperion is, the same way that you wouldn't embark on a long-distance road trip without making some preparations -- at least making sure that you have a GPS and that your car insurance is paid up -- we would recommend against investing without a plan.

The first thing that we do with clients and prospective clients is to sit down and have just a conversation with them. We can walk away from that with a clearly defined set of well articulated objectives. For most clients, that's going to include providing for a comfortable retirement for themselves. For some, it may include funding for a child's or a grandchild's education.

Once we know what those objectives are, we're in a position where we can recommend a custom tailored blend of investment strategies that is designed specifically to meet those objectives.

When clients execute and then begin the investment process with that, then we begin to measure and evaluate the performance of those strategies, both individually and as a group, and try to determine if they're meeting our expectations in terms of making progress towards those objectives.

At least once a year, we'll sit down with the clients and first find out if anything has changed or any of their objectives have changed. We'll talk about the strategies, which ones have met our expectations, which ones may not have, and where it may be appropriate to make substitutions.

Then we start the whole process again. We make the adjustments, we check in with the clients, we measure the performance. It's a continuous cycle that can last for decades or generations.

If this is an approach that I you think might work for you, let's get together and talk about it, and see if it's a good fit.

Stuart Conley: My background is, I have a Master's degree in Architecture. I practiced for nine years before becoming an investment advisor. The same set of discipline and rigor that applies to the creation of a building from a number of disparate elements is the approach that I bring to constructing an investment portfolio.

The same way you need to balance structure with fixtures, with lighting, with finishes, is the same way that we will custom blend a portfolio of stocks and different types of bonds and commodities and alternative investment strategies. Each of which has their own risk and return characteristics, into something that makes sense for our client and helps them to reach their objectives.

I'd be very excited about talking to you in more detail about our investment approach. Let's get together.

Stuart Conley: Here at Hyperion Wealth Advisers we use a number of tools and techniques to help our clients navigate through the turmoil that is the investing marketplace. I'm reminded of a conversation I had with a client my first year in the business.

He said to me, "Stuart, I want you to buy more of the stocks that go up, less of the ones that go down." I knew I had no ability to predict which ones were going to do what, but I learned about technical analysis, which is, very simply, the study of price charts so that one can understand the dynamic over time between supply, trying to push the price of something down, and demand, trying to push its price up.

I also learned that trends, like an uptrend in a stock, for example, are very clearly defined. You can see when they begin, and you can see when they end. A good recipe for success is to buy a stock that's in an uptrend and to sell it when you see the trend has ended. Let's look at an example.

This is a stock that's in a very clear and orderly uptrend. You can see it moving up and down, back and forth, but all within a very narrow range along that trend line. You can see also it gets to the point after it peaks where it begins to do what we call "rolling over." In that process it's breaking levels of support.

I would say that this uptrend ended right around here, and if I hadn't sold the stock here I would certainly want to sell it here to preserve whatever profit I have left in it. This is one example of the tools and techniques we use here at Hyperion Wealth Advisers. Let's get together and talk about this and others.
